These pages are dedicated to the memory of Trude Drexler, née Briess, who died in spring 2002 in the age of 104.
Ignaz Briess was born in Prerau in 1833.
In a book about ghetto life published in 1911 he describes the traditional living of jewish families in a small moravian village in the years before the 1848 revolution.
A glossary of yiddish and hebrew terms was added by Lisl Schröfl.
Another glossary shows the cited bible verses in two translations: the translation by Luther, which was common at this time, and the new “Einheitsübersetzung”, also by Lisl Schröfl.
Detailed remarks and sources complete the text.
Here you find a czech description of the Prerau Ghetto.
